Softball Drops Opening Two Games at UMBC Round Robin #2

BALTIMORE, MD — Manhattan softball opened up the UMBC Round Robin #2 with two games on Friday. In game one, Manhattan suffered an 8-3 setback to Colgate before falling 4-1 to Lehigh in game two.

GAME ONE

  • Sophia Kiseloski contributed to Manhattan's fast start by producing an RBI single which scored lead-off hitter Brianna Estevez, who reached on a single.

  • With two outs in the first, Jamie Falotico secured an RBI single to score Lindsey Hoag, putting the Jaspers ahead 2-0.

  • Colgate got one run back in the bottom of the first off a home run from Quinn Livesay. The Jaspers were able to get out of further trouble by inducing a groundout to end the inning.

  • The Raiders would continue to leave their mark offensively, scoring seven more unanswered runs to take an 8-2 lead.

  • A productive five-run third inning for the Raiders featured a two-run home run for Alexis Romero and a two-run blast for Jillian Herbst.

  • Falotico would add another RBI single in the fifth to cap the scoring for Manhattan.

GAME TWO

  • Anissa Villalobos notched the first hit for Manhattan with a double in the first inning. The Jaspers' threat would end there after the next three batters were all retired by Lehigh's Maria Urban.

  • The top of the second saw Lehigh come through with clutch hits after Jaspers' pitcher Karissa Spring recorded two outs.

  • However, the Mountain Hawks would make Spring pay for allowing earlier base runners, notching three more hits to take a 3-0 lead.

  • Lehigh would tack on one more run in the third inning to make it a four-run game.

  • Manhattan got one run back in the bottom of the frame when Brianna Estevez recorded a single and then later scored from third on a wild pitch.

  • Falotico produced her first multi-RBI game of the season in the loss to Colgate.
