Basehore’s Two Home Runs Highlight Doubleheader Conquest at Delaware State

DOVER, DE – The Manhattan Jaspers baseball team (4-7, 0-0 MAAC) took down the Hornets of Delaware State University (1-8, 0-0 NEC) in the doubleheader by a score of 5-3 and 4-3, respectively from Bob Reed Field on Saturday afternoon.

GAME 1 (GAME 2 OF SERIES):

  • Andreaus Lewis kicked things off for the Jaspers, working a one-out walk against the Hornets.
  • Colin Basehore launched a two-run blast into leftfield on the ensuing plate appearance.
  • Starting pitcher Brad Grasser returned to the bump in the second inning and retired the side in order.
  • In the top of the third inning, Ryan Lordier reached on an error by the Hornets' first baseman. Meanwhile, Trevor Hansen reached on an error by the Hornets' third baseman just two batters later and gave Manhattan a three-run cushion.
  • Delaware State got on the board with a double off Grasser to cut the Jaspers lead to just two.
  • Manhattan recouped the run it surrendered in the previous inning with another Basehore blast: this one, a solo shot.
  • After a Delaware State two-run home run, the Jaspers loaded the bases, and Basehore, again, came through for Manhattan with a sacrifice fly into center field to, once again, give itself a two-run advantage.
  • In relief of Grasser was Trey Packen, who slammed the door shut on the Hornets by punching out the final two batters to officially clinch the series victory.

GAME 2 (GAME 3 OF SERIES):

  • The Jaspers continued right where it left off in the first game, as Aidan Taclas doubled to left to open the series finale. Two batters later, Andreaus Lewis recorded an RBI to drive home Taclas from the hot corner to get on the board first.
  • Starting pitcher Joseph Duffield opened his afternoon by retiring the Hornets in order.
  • In the third inning, Ryan Lordier brought home Taclas from third once more after recording a walk to open the visiting half.
  • Following a two-out Lordier double in the fifth inning, Trevor Hansen knocked a base-hit into center field to make it a three-run game over the Hornets.
  • Taclas, again, continued his hot weekend in Dover as he took advantage of the pitching change for Delaware State, punched an RBI double to his resume, and widened Manhattan's lead to four runs.
  • The Hornets scored three runs before relief pitcher Cade Udell came in to slam the door and clinch the three-game conquest over Delaware State.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Junior Aidan Taclas logged six-for-12 from the dish, batting .500 overall in Delaware. The JUCO transfer hit six doubles, crossed the plate four times, grabbed a pair of RBIs, and swiped a pair of bags in the three-game conquest.
  • Freshman Colin Basehore smashed a pair of round-trippers in the first game of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
  • Brad Grasser logged five innings of work. Surrendering three earned runs and four hits, and punched out one in 19 batters faced.
  • Trey Packen and Cade Udell recorded their first saves of the season, respectively, in the afternoon.
