RIVERDALE, NY - Despite its shortfall against the MAAC's preseason favorites and winners of now-eight straight Fairfield Stags on Thursday morning, the Jaspers are ready to get back to work for a Saturday matinee against a Mount St. Mary's Mountaineer team that it saw only two and a half weeks ago. Manhattan defeated the Mount by 28 points inside Knott Arena. In the first meeting between the Jaspers and the Mountaineers, it was graduate forward Ines Gimenez Monserrat, who logged a game high 16 points. Between she and
Nitzan Amar, the two combined for 14 assists in the game. In the second half of the first meeting of the year,
Heather Vulin's squad outscored its opponent 43-11. In the last five games, Four Jaspers are averaging double-digit points heading into their 18th game of the season, and outscoring its opponents +17, and logging a field-goal percentage of 48.4 percent.
Scouting the Opposition:
•The Mountaineers are in their junior season as members of the MAAC.
•Mount St. Mary's is in the midst of a four-game winning streak. Now, the second longest in the conference behind Fairfield. The Mount have taken down Sacred Heart, Rider, Quinnipiac, and Siena respectively.
•At the hands of an Anna LeMaster double-double, Mount handed Quinnipiac its second loss of the season on Saturday, January 18.
•As a team, the Mountaineers rank second in the MAAC from distance averaging 35.3 percent. In MAAC competition, the Mount average three points higher.
•Senior guard Jo Raflo leads the Mount with 14.9 points-per-game, and 5.4 rebounds-per-game.
•Raflo was a Preseason All-MAAC Second Team selection in 2024-25. Additionally, she was a Third Team All-MAAC selection last season as the team's "three-point specialist." - Raflo logged a double-double at Fairfield on December 21 (18 and 10).
•Mount St. Mary's earned its first victory of the season against in-state foe Loyola (MD) Greyhounds out of the Patriot League in a 65-48 victory on December 7, after falling in the first six to start 2024-25.
•The Mountaineers were selected to finish seventh, just beloe Manhattan (6th) in the 2024-25 MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
•Guard Gabrielle Kennerly received the MAAC's Rookie of the Week award on November 11. The redshirt freshman missed all of 2023-24 with an injury.
•The Mount appeared in the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back years in '21 and '22.
