Women’s Basketball’s Four-Game Winning Streak Snapped at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT– The Manhattan Jaspers women's basketball team (10-7, 4-4 MAAC) put forth a valiant effort against the Fairfield Stags (14-3, 8-0 MAAC) but fell by a score of 69-44 inside Leo D. Mahoney Arena on Thursday morning.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Jaspers opened the scoring with junior guard Nitzan Amar just 40 seconds into the game, followed by a pair of Hana Muhl and Ines Gimenez Monserrat buckets to give Manhattan an early four-point advantage.
  • Coming off her new career-high nine-point affair, sophomore forward Kristina Juric gave Manhattan the early lead out of the media timeout.
  • Tegan Young and Gimenez-Monserrat sank home a pair of treys in the waning minutes of the first quarter to give Manhattan a five-point lead at the end of the first stanza.
  • The preseason favorite Fairfield Stags responded with an early 11-0 run to open the second quarter against Manhattan, which forced a Heather Vulin timeout.
  • Led by junior guard Brianna Davis, she logged the first field goal of the quarter with one second remaining in the stanza and brought the Jaspers within three. Manhattan's first six points in the quarter came from the charity stripe. q
  • Davis continued to lead the charge for the Jaspers, leading her squad with a pair of field goals in five tries in the third quarter.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Junior guard Hana Muhl grabbed four rebounds, contributed five points in a pair of completed buckets, and assisted on four baskets in 18 minutes on the floor.
  • Graduate forward Ines Gimenez-Monserrat logged a team-high 10 points on the morning, converting four-of-10 from the floor with a pair of triples from beyond the arc.
  • Senior forward Petra Juric grabbed eight rebounds on the afternoon, knocking down free throws in her lone trip to the charity stripe.
  • Manhattan committed a season-high 29 turnovers, which led to Fairfield logging 31 points from them.
  • The Jaspers won the bench-point battle 18-13, with Brianna Davis, Tegan Young, Claudia Jimenez, and Kristina Juric paving the way.
