Baseball Bested by Saint Peter’s in Doubleheader

Series finale set for Sunday at 1 p.m.

Box Score JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Manhattan Jaspers baseball team dropped a pair of games to the Saint Peter's Peacocks, falling 14-13 and 6-3, Saturday afternoon at Jaroschak Field.

The Jaspers drop to 9-19 overall and 3-5 in MAAC Conference play, while the Peacocks improve to 9-22 and 3-5, respectively.

Game One
It took nearly four hours to finalize the slugfest that saw a combined 24 hits, 27 runs, and 23 RBIs. Manhattan posted a hefty seven-run first inning, credited to a pair of wild pitches and seven walks. Another walk sent Logan Pfannenbecker across in the third, and Vincent Davis knocked in two more with a double in the fourth, giving them an 11-4 edge.

However, a dastardly sixth saw Saint Peter's capitalize on two detrimental Manhattan errors and, combined with five well-placed hits, the Peacocks scored ten runs to take a 14-11 lead.

Pfannenbecker went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, including a single in the top of the seventh to trim the Jaspers' deficit, while Drew Wyers drove in Manhattan's final run with a single just after.

Chase Swain led the Jaspers' offense, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Daniel Perez also recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.

Justin Solimine tossed 4.1 innings in the no-decision, allowing four runs on six hits with five walks and four strikeouts. John Kwiatkowski (0-1) recorded the loss, conceding seven runs (four earned) on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Game Two

Manhattan struck first in the top of the third on a sac fly from Perez, pushing Frankie Marinelli across, who reached on a walk. However, the bottom half of the frame was plagued with errors, and Saint Peter's capitalized, taking a 3-1 lead.

Jonny Gilligan maintained the edge from the mound, silencing Manhattan's bats to just one hit over the next two innings, while the offense added a pair of runs in the fifth. Perez managed to crack the code with a deep double to open the sixth, and a pair of groundouts drove the RS Sophomore home, making it 5-2.

Manhattan's final run came on a pair of doubles from Andreaus Lewis and Vincent Davis. Davis, representing the tying run, was left stranded, and the Peacocks tacked on their final run in the bottom of the inning to wrap up the scoring.

Garret Garbinski (1-3) took the loss after 2.2 innings of work, allowing two runs on three hits with five strikeouts. Trey Packen and Michael Staiano combined for 5.1 innings of relief, allowing three runs on six hits and recording seven strikeouts.
