LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Manhattan women's lacrosse falls to Rider after a second quarter push by the Broncs giving the home team a 14-11 victory.
After a strong first quarter, the Jaspers' grip on the game began to slip, allowing six goals in the second and then being outscored in the next three quarters.
After conceding the first goal to the Broncs, Manhattan scored the next four goals of the first quarter, with the first by Ava Fernandes. The second quarter went back and forth but ultimately favored the Broncs, who outscored the Jaspers 6-3.
With the game tied at halftime, the Broncs sealed the deal for the win, holding the Jaspers to only one goal for the quarter. The lone goal came from Reagan Mullins off a free-position shot.
In a final effort, the Jaspers rallied in the fourth, scoring two goals within the first four minutes of play. The first goal came from Mullins, firing the ball past the goalkeeper within the first minute of play in the fourth. However, this was countered by two back-to-back Rider goals. The Jaspers would score the final goal of the game with just under two minutes left and attempted three more goals to tie the game, but fell short.
All five of the Jaspers' scorers this afternoon had at least two goals, with Mullins leading the charge with a hat trick. Leading the Jaspers on defense was Andrea Liotta, with three ground balls and six draw controls.
The Jaspers will play again later this weekend on Saturday, March 30th at 1 p.m. against Niagara University in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
