Softball Drops Two at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Manhattan softball team played two games at Stony Brook today, losing game one 8-0, and game two 7-0.

Game 1 – Stony Brook 8, Manhattan 0  (5 Innings)

After a scoreless first inning, Stony Brook would burst for five runs in the second, including a home run from Juliana Sanzone. Sanzone would drive in another run in the fourth inning, to make the score 6-0. Stony Brook would finish the mercy in the fifth, scoring two runs, capped by an RBI double from Catherine Kupinski. 

The Jaspers were held to four hits, including two from Lauren Rende.

Mia Haynes pitched five shutout for the Seawolves, striking out five. Ava Matzger got the start for the Jaspers, followed by relief innings from Karissa Spring and Alexandra Hess.

Game 2 - Stony Brook 7, Manhattan 0 (5 Innings)

Kupinski got it started for the Seawolves, with an RBI single in the first. Stony Brook would add a sacrifice fly in the third to make it 2-0, before they began to open it up with a two-run home run from Corinne Badger in the fourth. Stony Brook added two more runs in the fifth, and had the eighth run on third base, before the game was called, due to weather.

Gabrielle Maday threw five shutout innings for the Seawolves, striking out five. Mollie Charest started the game for the Jaspers, followed by relief from Sophia Kiseloski. 

UP NEXT: The Jaspers will begin conference play this weekend at Gaelic Park when they take on Niagara. The series will start Friday, with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. followed by one game Sunday at 10 a.m.
