Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Wins Third Straight, Tops FDU

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Jaspers won all three games of their homestand, dominating FDU this afternoon with a final score of 17-6.

Despite the freezing cold puddles covering the field, the Jaspers battled both the Knights and Mother Nature this afternoon.

"We saw a lot of players step up today to finish the job. We are very proud of how we competed. It's great to cap off our non conference season with an undefeated record at home," said head coach Jenna Dingler.

The Jaspers dominated the Knights on both the offensive and defensive ends in the first half of the game, holding the Knights to only one goal in the first quarter and matching them in the second.

The Knights had their best chance of catching up to the Jaspers in the second quarter of play, going on a 4-1 run in the final moments. However, once the Jaspers returned to the pitch after a much-needed warm-up in the locker room, they reignited their intensity in the second half of the game.

Out of the eleven points scored in the second half, the Jaspers accounted for 10 of them, only allowing the Knights a single goal in the third quarter.

To give a goal-by-goal account of this game would take an eternity, with a whopping seven different Jaspers scoring, including freshman Elise Hensley with an outstanding three-point game, scoring the second-to-last goal and assisting on the one prior.

The three offensive powerhouses for the Jaspers today were Olivia Cruthers with five goals, followed by Juliana Iovine and Ashley Bonitch, each with four.

The Jaspers featured two goalkeepers today: starter #44 Ashley Gambardella, who played the majority of the game, followed by sophomore Danielle Serbinski, who was put in the last five minutes of play to also get a piece of the action.

The Jaspers hit the road next week, traveling to UMBC in Baltimore, Md., to take on the Retrievers on Saturday, March 9, at 11 AM.
