Box Score CLEMSON, SC – The eighth-ranked Clemson Tigers held Manhattan Baseball scoreless in six of seven innings played Tuesday afternoon to take a 13-1 win over the Jaspers Tuesday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Dave Miller's first return to No. 8 Clemson as the Jasper head coach.
Tuesday's contest was the first meeting between the two teams and Manhattan's second bout with a ranked foe this season - Alabama was ranked No. 18 at the time of competition. The loss drops the Jaspers' overall record to 4-10, while the Tigers improve to 14-1.
Manhattan recorded four hits today, led by Freshman Dylan Mayer's 2-for-3 performance at the plate. In the top of the sixth with two outs, Daniel Perez lined a double down the right field line and Mayer followed up with single up the middle to drive in the Jaspers' lone run. Vincent Davis also tallied a hit for the Jaspers.
Drew Titsworth (2-0) was awarded the win after 1.1 innings of unscathed work on the mound.
The Tigers struck early and often Tuesday, putting a run on the board in the first and dropping a five-run second to widen the gap. A walked RBI gave way to a 7-0 lead in their favor heading into five and the Tigers closed out the game with a pair of three-run innings.
Freshman Joseph Duffield (0-3) was hit with the loss after one and a third innings on the mound.
