Softball Drops Two in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fl – The Manhattan softball team dropped a pair of contests Saturday in the UNF/JU Classic, losing to Harvard 6-1 and North Florida 15-0.

Game 1 – Harvard 6, Manhattan 1

The Jaspers struck early in the top of the first, when Maddy Weir reached base on a throwing error, allowing Anissa Villalobos to score, to give Manhattan a 1-0 lead, 

Harvard would respond with a sacrifice fly in the second inning, tying the game 1-1.

In the third, Harvard would open the game up, scoring five runs including a bases loaded triple from Madi Mays. The rest of the game, the teams would trade zeros, resulting in a 6-1 final score. 

Mollie Charest started the game today for the Jaspers allowing five runs in just two innings pitched. Alexandra Hess came in relief allowing just one earned run in four innings. 

Nicolette Hunter picked up the win for Harvard throwing 6.1 innings, not allowing any runs. Manhattan was held to four hits and eight total base runners.

Game 2 – North Florida 15, Manhattan 0 (5 innings)

North Florida produced early and often, scoring all 15 runs in the first two innings of the ball game. Major producers for the Ospreys included Shannon Glover who had five RBI's and Hadlee Reichert who drove in three runs for North Florida. 

Halle Arends picked up the win for the Ospreys throwing three shutout innings before Cameron Ponich came in to throw the final two. Gabriella Mazzotta got on base in all three of her at-bats, including two hits. Manhattan was held to three hits and six total base runners.

The Jaspers return to the diamond on Sunday for their last two games of the classic vs Jacksonville starting at 9 a.m.
