RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan Softball team opens their season this weekend with a trip to Florida to participate in the UNF/JU Classic. The Jaspers will be in Jacksonville for three days, playing a combined five games against Harvard, Jacksonville, and North Florida.
Manhattan will kick off their season off on Friday, February 23rd with an 11:00 a.m. contest with Harvard, followed by a 4:00 p.m. game against Jacksonville.
Saturday the Jaspers will again play a double-header, once again playing Harvard first, at 1:30 p.m. followed by North Florida at 4:00 p.m.Â
Sunday will be the Jaspers last game of the classic, taking on Jacksonville once more at 10:00 a.m. before returning home to the Bronx.Â
Harvard: The Crimson are coming off of a 29-17-1 season, winning the Ivy League Tournament, to clinch a bid in the NCAA Tournament where they fell in their opening regional. Manhattan will be their first game of the 2024 season. The Jaspers lead the all-time series with Harvard 2-1. Last time out, Manhattan came out with a 1-0 victory in 2017.
Jacksonville: The Dolphins are coming off of a 25-27 season, qualifying for the ASUN tournament, but losing in their first game. In the 2024 season thus far, they are 3-7, and will have a contest against Harvard, prior to taking on the Jaspers. Manhattan and Jacksonville will be meeting for the first time in their program's history.
North Florida: The Ospreys are coming off of a 29-23-1 season, finishing 10th in the ASUN. They have started off the 2024 season, 6-3 and will have four more contests before taking on Manhattan. North Florida leads the all-time series with Manhattan 3-0, beating the Jaspers 9-1 in their most recent meeting, in 2019.
Leaders: The Jaspers return 90% of their roster from last season, including All-MAAC performers, Lauren Rende and Maddy Weir, as well as ace pitcher Sophia Kiseloski.
