Men's Hoops Faces Iona, Rider This Week

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's basketball team (5-17, 2-11 MAAC) plays at Iona on Friday night and will air on ESPNU. Tip-off in New Rochelle is slated for 7 p.m. The Jaspers will then return to Draddy Gymnasium on Saturday for Kids Day/Jersey Day.

Saturday Promotion: All kids wearing jerseys get into the game for free. The team will have a postgame autograph session immediately following the game.
This week, the Jaspers return to the court ranked 11th in the MAAC standings. Manhattan fell to Siena in their last outing, 68-63.

The Preview: The all-time series between Manhattan and Iona has the Jaspers trailing 30-17. Manhattan is on a two-game losing streak to the Gales. The Jaspers are 5-17 against Iona on the road. Last time out, Manhattan played Iona on Feb 17, 2023, with a 60-71 loss. 

The all-time series between Manhattan and Rider has the Jaspers trailing 33-17. Manhattan is on a four-game losing streak to the Broncs. The Jaspers are 12-11 against Rider at home. Last time out, Manhattan played Rider on Jan 12, 2024, with a 58-71 loss. Daniel Rouzan finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists for the Jaspers.
The Opponent: Iona (12-11, 7-5 MAAC) enters Friday, losing its last game and ranked fifth in the MAAC. Iona ranks fourth in the MAAC in scoring at 74.0 points per game. Greg Gordon ranks fifth in the MAAC in scoring at 15.9 points per game.

Rider (8-16, 5-8 MAAC) is slotted eighth in the conference standings this week, having lost its last three games. The Broncs lead the league in rebounds with 38.8 per game. James Irvin is the league's leading scorer with 18.6 points per game.

Leading the Way: Seydou Traore led the Jaspers on offense in the last outing with 16 points, plus seven rebounds. Daniel Rouzan chipped in 12 points. Shaquil Bender leads Manhattan in overall scoring at 13.7 points per game.

By the Numbers: Manhattan enters the week ranked first in the MAAC in assists per game (14.5), fifth in three-pointers made (7.5), and fifth in free throw percentage 72.6.
Individually, Traore ranks first in the MAAC in blocked shots (1.3) and second in rebounding (8.5), Rouzan ranks sixth in field goal percentage (.547), Jaden Winston ranks second in assists (4.7), seventh in assists/turnover ratio (1.8), and second in steals (2.3).
