Women's Hoops Set for Saint Peter's, Quinnipiac This Week

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's basketball team (15-7, 8-5 MAAC) travels to Saint Peter's for a midweek match-up on Thursday at 7 p.m., before returning home to Draddy Gymnasium for a game against Quinnipiac on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Saturday is National Girls and Women in Sports Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Register for the all-sports clinic here. Wear pink and come on out and support the Jaspers. Proceeds from the silent auction will benefit Making Strides in the Bronx of the American Cancer Society.

This week, the Jaspers return to the court ranked fourth in the MAAC standings. Manhattan competed with just six healthy players in its last two outings, falling in both  - the first 0-2 outing for the Jaspers in league play this year. 

The Preview: The all-time series between Manhattan and Saint Peter's has the Jaspers leading 34-7. Manhattan is on a 21-game win streak over the Peacocks. The Jaspers are 14-3 against St. Peter's on the road. Last time out, Manhattan played Saint Peter's on Jan 14, 2024, with a 41-37 victory. Ines Gimenez Monserrat recorded 14 points and five assists to lead the way for Manhattan.
The all-time series between Manhattan and Quinnipiac has the Jaspers trailing 18-6. Manhattan is on a one-game losing streak to the Bobcats. The Jaspers are 3-9 against Quinnipiac at home. Last time out, Manhattan played Quinnipiac on Jan 6, 2024, with a 59-71 loss. Petra Juric finished with 22 points and four rebounds for Manhattan.

The Opponent: Saint Peter's (5-17, 2-11 MAAC) enters Thursday on a four-game losing streak, currently ranked 11th in the league. Jada Leonard leads the Peacocks with 12.6 points per game and a team-high 45 steals on the season. Fatmata is the leading rebounder with 7.5 points per game and 10.2 points per game.  

Quinnipiac (10-12, 7-6 MAAC) is on a two-game losing streak. The Bobcats rank third in the MAAC in field goal percentage at .408 per game. Jackie Grisdale guides the Bobcats with 14.1 points per game. Anna Foley averages 12.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. 

Leading the Way: Jade Blagrove led the offensive charge with 13 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. Anne Bair added 11 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Petra Juric was just shy of a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds. Ines Gimenez Monserrat leads Manhattan with 10.3 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per game.

By the Numbers: Manhattan enters the week ranked first in the MAAC in blocks per game (6.5), free throws made per game (13.5) rebound margin (6.5), and second in rebounds per game (38.0). The Jaspers also rank 15th in the NCAA in blocks per game (6.5).

Individually, Leyla Ozturk ranks 8th in the nation in blocks (7) and 15th in blocks per game.

What's Ahead: Next week, Manhattan has a single game when it hosts Canisius on Thursday, Feb. 22. The Jaspers won the last outing on Jan. 20, 58-55. Nitzan Amar had 15 points, five rebounds, and five assists in the victory.
