Women's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Finale at Vermont

BURLINGTON, VT– The Manhattan Jaspers women's basketball team (6-3, 0-0 MAAC) fell to the Catamounts of the University of Vermont (5-6, 0-0 America East) by a score of 74-57 inside Patrick Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Vermont's Anna Olson opened the contest with a bucket, before Leyla Ozturk found Petra Juric down low, followed by a second bucket for the aforementioned Juric off a Hanson turnover.
  • The Catamounts proceeded to go on an 8-0 run before junior guard Brianna Davis stopped the bleeding shortly.
  • Back-to-back three-pointers for Vermont put the Jaspers in a double-digit hole before Juric shaved the deficit to eight at the end of the first stanza.
  • Manhattan cut Vermont's lead to as little as six with back-to-back baskets from Hana Muhl and Kristina Juric midway through the second quarter.
  • Kristina Juric ended the first half with a three-pointer for Manhattan, bringing its point total to 23.
  • Muhl and Gimenez Monserrat opened up the second half with layups to narrow the Catamounts' lead even more.
  • Gimenez Monserrat sank home two triples down the stretch in the fourth quarter.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Manhattan was outscored in the first half by 15 points heading into the second half. The most significant halftime deficit this year.
  • Ines Gimenez Monserrat led the Jaspers with 12 points on the afternoon. She shot five-for-12 from the field and added four assists to her resume.
  • The Jaspers converted all seven attempts from the free-throw line.
  • Manhattan won the point battle in the paint by outscoring the Catamounts by four in the respective category.
  • The Jaspers shot 23-of-56 as a team for a 41.1% field-goal clip.
  • In the Heather Vulin era, the Jaspers dropped to 3-6 in non-conference finales through nine years.
