Loudonville, NY - Manhattan felt the wrath of Siena early on Wednesday afternoon at Hickey Field as the Saints rolled to a 3-0 win.
The Saints got on the board first with a goal from Megan Stowell in the 19th minute. Stowell made a heads up play by cleaning up an initial shot that was blocked before burying her shot from inside the box. Molly Brunk stood little chance on the play.
Manhattan poured a large amount of their energy into trying to stop the Siena attack, and as a result couldn't properly initiate their own attack for the majority of the game.
In the 41st minute, Siena extended their lead to 2 goals when Annie Bagnall's one-touch inside the box beat Brunk. Stowell was credited for the assist on the play. Siena capped their scoring in the 64th minute when Maya Costa cleaned up a cross from the left side which took a deflection off of Cate Flanagan.
Manhattan couldn't muster a shot on goal against the Saints defense. With the win, Siena moves ahead of Manhattan in the MAAC standings. The Jaspers sit in fifth place.
Stowell Bowl
Wednesday's match-up pitted Manhattan sophomore midfielder Kaylee Stowell up against twin sister Megan. The latter raised her goal total to 6 and she now has 18 points on the campaign.
Before the match when reflecting on Kaylee Stowell's career to date, Manhattan head coach Brendan Lawler said: "Kaylee does so much for us in the middle on both sides of the ball. She's come a long, long way from last year…she's fantastic in the air and wants to be physical defensively so she disrupts a ton of things in order to start our attack."
