Jaspers Fall to Rider University, 71-58

Box Score LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, N.J.. - The Manhattan men's basketball team fell short to River University, 71-58 at Alumni Gymnasium.  


''We faced the preseason MAAC favorite in Rider tonight & they were as good as advertised. Tip your hat to Mervin James the preseason MAAC player of the year for a tremendous performance," said Coach Gallagher. "As for us, we will continue to grow & although it is painful to go through this, we see positives and light at the end of the tunnel. We need to get healthy. We look forward to Sunday at home vs Saint Peter's." 

The Jaspers were led in scoring tonight by a trio of double-digit scorers. Daniel Rouzan finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Shaquil Bender had 15 points and seven rebounds. Jaden Winston added 12 points, six assists, and three steals. 

Mervin James led Rider University in scoring 27 points and six rebounds. T.J. Weeks Jr. added 16 points and nine rebounds.

Manhattan and Rider went head to head in the first half tied at 33 points at the half. The Jaspers shot 50 percent from the field while the Broncs shot 38.2 percent. Rider got off to a great start beyond the arc shooting 62.5 percent from the three-point line. 

Rider stayed consistent in the second half extending their lead to 62-41 with 9:38 remaining. The Broncs scored 13 points off the bench, 21 rebounds, and shot 41.9 percent from the floor winning by 13 points. 

Manhattan struggled in the second half shooting 28.6 percent from the floor, 20 rebounds, and three points off the bench.
