RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan College dropped a home game Thursday evening to the University of Sacred Heart 2-0. The loss gave Sacred Heart a 6-1 series lead, as the two teams met for the first time since 2022.
After 33 minutes of scoreless play, the Pioneers struck first when Grace O'Hara recorded a goal in the 34th minute, assisted by Nichol Green. The game went into halftime 1-0 and continued that way until the 84th minute when Kelly Medeiros found the top left corner of the net to extend the lead to 2-0. This score held through the game as the Jaspers could not not find the back of the net.
The Jaspers were led in the net by goalkeeper Margaret Brunk. She recorded six saves on eight attempts. Manhattan College was led in shots by Sami Derrico and Nicolette Caneda who recorded two each.
As a team, the Jaspers recorded three corner kicks and had four shots on goal.
Manhattan has a quick turnaround as they return to the pitch Saturday, September 9, when they travel to Loudonville to take on Siena for the start of MAAC play.
