Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan wins back-to-back games at home, putting up three sets over the Saint Peter's one.
Today, against the Peacocks, the Peacocks won the first set and were then swept by the Jaspers for the final three sets of the match.
Following the first set, the second was also back and forth, with each team going run for run. However, at the end of the set, the Jaspers went on a four-to-one run, putting them up by two and allowing them to sneak in one last point for the win.
The third set was neck and neck up until the halfway mark. A kill by
Maike Bertens gave the Jaspers the momentum to push a four-point run against the Peacocks, giving them just enough momentum to maintain the lead until the end of the set.
In the fourth and final set, the Jaspers were able to put up four- and five-point runs early in the game to create a buffer for the Peacocks' offense. By the end of these runs, the Jaspers led the Peacocks 10-4. After this, the Peacocks attempted to make a comeback but were unsuccessful. The Peacocks' last push was toward the end of the set, slamming down five straight points to begin closing the gap. However, it was too late for the Peacocks, as the Jaspers only needed three more points to win, which they scored, with the last two coming from kills by
Mikalah Curran.
Leading the Jaspers' offense was
Mikalah Curran, who scored 19 kills. Following Curran was
Maike Bertens with 16 kills. Emmons led the team tonight in assists, providing 38 for her teammates. Leading the defense was Curran, picking up 10 digs.
Manhattan plays again on Sunday, September 17th, at 3:00 p.m. against Rider University in Draddy Gymnasium.
