NEW YORK, N.Y. – Manhattan finished their final regular season tournament of the regular season, losing to Morgan State University in the final match of the Columbia Tournament, 3-1.
The Jaspers dominated the Bears in the first set of the match, beating the Bears 25-16. The Bears scored the first two points of the set; however, the Jaspers answered back with a four-point run to put them up by two. As the set progressed, the Bears were unable to catch up to the Jaspers, falling further behind after each Jasper run. At the end of the set, the Jaspers drove the final stake into the Bears with a four-point run, kicked off by a kill from
Camila Gomez, assisted by
Sarah Emmons.
The following three sets, however, would go in the opposing team's favor, resulting in losses for the Jaspers in all three. Despite losing the next three sets, the Jaspers were able to keep the Bears' margin of victory within five, coming as close as three in the fourth and final set.
Elenoa Sing and
Mikalah Curran both led the Jaspers in kills, each tallying eight. Stepping up in assists was last season's star in assists,
Julieanne McKee, with 19.
Manhattan plays again on Wednesday, September 13th, at 7:00 p.m. against Central Connecticut State University in Draddy Gymnasium for their season home opener.
