LORETTO, P.A. – Manhattan dropped the first match of the Red Flash Classic tonight, losing 3-0 against Saint Francis University.
Today, against the Red Flash, the Jaspers lost the first two sets by a margin greater than 10 points. The third set saw a Jasper rally, bringing them within seven points of the Red Flash at the end of the set.
In the third set, the Jaspers kept up with the Red Flash, maintaining a one- to two-point game until a four-point Red Flash run put them up 12-7. Shortly after, the Red Flash went on another five-point run, increasing their lead to nine points. The Jaspers went on their own 5-1 run towards the end of the set, bringing the game back within five. However, the momentum stayed with the Red Flash, finishing the set at 25-18.
Leading the Jaspers' offense was
Maike Bertens, scoring nine kills for the Jaspers. Leading in assists again was
Sarah Emmons with 10.
Manhattan plays again on Saturday, September 2nd, at 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. against Stony Brook University and Purdue Fort Wayne in Loretto, PA, in the Red Flash Classic.
