Women's Soccer Takes Down Wagner 2-1
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Manhattan College picked up a 2-1 victory over Wagner in its second contest of the season. The Jaspers got their revenge on the Seahawks after taking a 1-0 defeat to them exactly one year prior.
Coach Lawler was pleased with his team's effort today saying, "Great team effort to get our 1st win of the season. All wins are huge and especially on the road. This will prepare us well for conference play."
The Jaspers came out firing as in the 8th minute Kaylee Stowell was able to find the back of the net, coming from an assist by Julia Nicholas. The Jaspers took a 1-0 lead into halftime before Arancha Antunes scored an unassisted goal in the 57th minute, raising the lead to 2-0. The Jaspers never gave up their lead as Wagner's lone goal came in the 87th minute.
The Jaspers were led in the net by goalkeeper Margaret Brunk. She recorded eight saves in her second collegiate game. Manhattan College was led in shots by Stowell who recorded three.
As a team, the Jaspers recorded five corner kicks and had six shots on goal.
Manhattan returns to the pitch on Thursday, August 31 with a 6 p.m. match-up at Loyola University Maryland.Â
