POMONA, N.Y. –
Will Hesslink fired a three-hit, complete game shutout to open the Manhattan Baseball team's MAAC series against Mount St Mary's with a 5-0 win at Clover Stadium.
Game two of the weekend series is set to get underway tomorrow at 10 am on
ESPN3.
The game began as a pitcher's duel, with neither Hesslink nor the Mount's starter Cooper Adams yielding a hit until the fifth inning when the Jasper bats got going.
Daniel Perez connected for a two-out single to center field. A pair of back-to-back walks from
Frankie Marinelli and
Logan Pfannenbecker loaded the bases for
Pete Durocher. Durocher delivered a single to take a 2-0 lead.
Batting cleanup today was
Jack Lynch, who returned from injury today and started for the first time since Mar. 10. Lynch delivered an RBI single right after Durocher to score one more and make the score 3-0.
The final two runs came in the seventh inning thanks to
Alfredo Delgado driving in another pair of runs on a single.
Hesslink finished the game with 10 punchouts on 113 pitches, 71 of which were strikes and only issuing one free pass.
