PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattan baseball clinched a spot in the MAAC Championships for the first time since the 2021 season with its series win against Rider, 2-1, following today's 5-1 win in game one of the team's doubleheader today to close out the regular season.
Manhattan dropped game two of the doubleheader. 7-0.
The Jaspers (21-32, 13-11 MAAC) will now await the rest of the results from around the MAAC to find out whom they will face off with at Clover Stadium.
GAME ONE
Much like game one of the series on Thursday, Manhattan used small ball to get on the board. In the third inning, the
Logan Pfannenbecker and
Pete Durocher connection struck again, each connecting on a pair of singles to get the pair on first and second.
Jack Lynch stepped in next and moved the pair over on a groundout, placing both in scoring position.
Alfredo Delgado brought Pfannenbecker home on a groundout to make the score 1-0 while also moving Durocher over to third. Perez knocked in Durocher with a single down the right-field line to make the score 2-0.
The Green and White struck again in the fifth inning. Durocher connected for another single and stole second for the center fielder's 20th stolen base of the season. Lynch moved Durocher over 90 feet on a single. During the next at-bat, the Bronc's pitcher threw an errant pitch which allowed both runners to move over and Durocher scored to run the score up to 3-0.
Pfannenbecker delivered his fourth home run of the year in the seventh inning, cranking a pitch to right field for a two-run shot to make the score 5-0.
Tyler Fagler tossed a gem this afternoon to earn the win. The graduate student took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before the Broncs got an infield single to finally get a hit. Fagler's final line from this afternoon was seven innings, the lone hit, and seven punch outs while issuing no free passes.
GAME TWO
The back half of the doubleheader was scoreless until Rider broke the game open in the fifth inning with four runs which came off of a two-RBI single and two-RBI double.
Rider's Scott Shaw mashed a two-run home run in the seventh to extend the lead which was followed up by another two-RBI single which sealed the deal.
Tyler Babel threw four scoreless innings prior to the Bronc's offense getting going. In the four innings, the junior rung up five batters.
