RIVERDALE, N.Y. – After taking one of three games from Canisius last week, the Manhattan baseball team returns to the diamond for the final weekend of the regular season with their playoff hopes on the line.
Manhattan will play its final four games at Clover Stadium, opening with Fordham on Tuesday and then welcoming the Rider Broncs to Clover for a three-game set which is set to begin Thursday morning at 10 am.All four games will be broadcast on ESPN3.
Following a weekend of MAAC baseball, Manhattan sits in the playoffs at sixth in the standings. The Jaspers sit one game ahead of Mount St. Mary's, whom the Green and White own the tiebreaker over after taking the series between the two teams, 2-1, two weeks ago.
On the team's trip to Buffalo last week,
Logan Pfannenbecker and
Pete Durocher turned in some solid performances. The two and three hole men each swatted a pair of home runs, for Pfannenbecker both came in game one, while Durocher delivered his in games one and three. Pfannenbecker crossed the plate six times, including at least once in each game while Durocher collected six hits including three in game one
As for the Jaspers cross-borough rival Fordham, they will arrive out in Pomona with a record of 19-32. In its most recent series, the Rams took two-of-three from UMass. The Rams have a pair of batters batting over 300 with Zach Selinger (.325) and Daniel Bucciero (.302). Selinger has also flexed his power, leading the Rams with 12 long balls.
Rider, who is coming off a two-game weekend series down in Durham with nationally ranked Duke, a series in which Rider took game one off the Blue Devils, 2-1, and failed to hang onto its lead in game two, falling 4-3 to move its record to 31-16, 13-5 MAAC. Brian Skettini has been the offensive catalyst for the Broncs, batting a cool .325 while also being second on the team in RBI with 41, behind only Brendan O'Donnell who has knocked in 46 runs.
