POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y – Manhattan's three-game win streak came to an end on Wednesday, losing their first game of the week to Marist, 10-9.
After a quiet first half for the Jaspers, the Jaspers were able to score three goals within two minutes during the final quarter to come back and gain the advantage, 8-6.The Red Fox's offensive would overwhelm the Jaspers' defense as time wound down, giving the Marist the 10-9 victory.
The Jaspers came into the second quarter down by one, but this was quickly changed by Jillian Reiner, who tied the game for the Jaspers. The Red Foxes went on to score two more goals in the third quarter, making a Jaspers comeback all the more difficult.
The fourth quarter saw the Japers' offense light up, scoring three quick goals to put them up by one. This forced a Red Fox time-out, which the Jaspers used to write up a plan for another goal once they got back on the field. The Jaspers would score one more goal in the fourth to put them up 9-7. However, the Red Foxes would go on to score four more goals by the end of the game, winning 10-9
Reiner once again turned in a strong showing, scoring four of the Jaspers' nine goals. Julianna Iovine had two goals and one ground bal this afternoon.
Manhattan visits Quinnipiac on Saturday for its next game. The start time in Hamden, Conn, is 3 p.m.
