LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – An eight-run sixth inning powered the Manhattan baseball team past the Siena Saints to secure the series win, 11-1, on Saturday.
Manhattan (15-27, 8-7 MAAC) now looks forward to its Wednesday matchup with Seton Hall at 4 p.m.
Siena scored the first run of the game, but from there the Saints offense was shut down by Jasper starter
Connor O'Neill, who earned his second win of the season after five frames of work and only yielding the lone run and five hits.
The sixth inning was kicked off by a
Trevor Santos single, who then moved to second on a wild pitch during
Nick Plue's at-bat. Plue was awarded first after being hit by a pitch, and moved into scoring position on yet another wild pitch.
Frankie Marinelli cleared the bases by taking the first pitch he saw to right field for a single, making the score 5-1.
Marinelli proceeded to steal second and was brought home by
Pete Durocher. After a walk and another hit batter, which scored one run, the Jaspers had batted around as Santos returned to the box and drew a walk to load the bases. Plue smacked a two RBI single right after which was followed up by a Marinelli double to make the score 11-1.
Today was Plue's first collegiate multi-RBI game.
