RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan closes the 2023 regular season on Saturday at Wagner on Staten Island at 6 p.m.
The Jaspers can win the MAAC Regular Season Championship and the number-one seed in the MAAC Tournament. Manhattan needs to win, and Mount St. Mary's to lose for the Jaspers to be the top seed and regular season champion. The Jaspers can also be the two or three seed in the MAAC Tournament.
Manhattan (9-4, 6-2 MAAC) is coming off a 10-6 loss to Siena on Saturday. The Jaspers fell behind 6-1 at the half. Manhattan scored four goals in the fourth quarter but could not mount a comeback.
Kyle Gucwa,
Scott O'Connor, and
Liam Peabody had a goal and an assist.
Joseph Persico made 12 saves in goal.
Wagner (3-10, 2-6) is coming off a 10-8 win at Canisius on Saturday. Benjamin Stewart and Jack Brady had hat tricks for the Seahawks. Wagner outscored Canisius 3-0 in the fourth quarter to pick up the win. Brady leads the team in points (29), and Stewart paces the squad in goals (25).
The Jaspers have won three in a row against the Seahawks. All time, the Jaspers are 12-2 against the Seahawks. Manhattan won last year's meeting 11-5.
Manhattan leads the MAAC in man-down defense, clearing percentage, scoring defense, and scoring margin.
Gucwa's two points on Saturday extended the senior's point-scoring streak to 43 games.
Persico continues to lead the MAAC in GAA (8.24) and save percentage (57.4%). The graduate student's GAA is best in Division I too.
Gucwa also leads the MAAC in points per game (3.69) and assists per game (1.85). In the Jaspers' eight league games, Gucwa has 27 points—12 goals and 15 assists.
Scott O'Connor has a point in eight straight games, and
Christian Lyons has a point in 11 contests in a row.
