NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – Behind a pair of home runs off the bats of
Greg Shaw and
Logan Pfannenbecker, the Manhattan baseball team evened up its weekend series with the Niagara Purple Eagles, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at Bobo Field.
The rubber game is set to take place tomorrow, with first pitch set to be thrown at 12 p.m.
Niagara brought around one run in the home half of the second inning. Max Giordano connected for a single and managed to steal second to move into scoring position. A fielding error by
Jacob Radziewicz followed to put runners on the corners and Giordano moved the final 90 feet on a wild pitch by Jasper starter
Tyler Fagler.
Manhattan took the lead right after in the third inning. Radziewicz led off the inning with a double to set the table for Pfannenbecker, who belted his first collegiate home run to take a 2-1 lead.
Niagara tied the game up at 2-2 with an RBI single in the home half of the third.
The tie would be broken for good in the fifth inning. Shaw found himself in the batter's box today instead of on the pitcher's mound where he has been accustomed to but was just as comfortable. He took the Purple Eagles deep for his first collegiate hit and RBI to take the lead for good, 3-2.
Fagler turned in a solid outing this afternoon, earning his second win of the season while tossing a quality start, hurling 6.2 innings while yielding four hits and punching out eight, and tossing 70 strikes on 93 pitches.
