RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan baseball hits the road again this weekend; this week, the Jaspers head to Austin for three games against Texas on the Longhorn Network.
The series starts on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Saturday is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Eastern, and Sunday's first pitch is slated for 1 p.m. Eastern.
Manhattan is coming off a split weekend in Maryland against UMES and Lehigh. The Jaspers won both games against UMES, 5-4 and 15-6, and lost both versus Lehigh, 18-6 and 5-4. The 15-6 win over UMES capped the weekend for the Green and White.
Daniel Perez drove in three runs in the win, and
Pete Durocher drove in a pair to lead the offense.
John Kwiatkowski and
Oliver Pudvar didn't allow an earned run in five innings of relief.
Texas has won two straight and sits at 6-7. The wins have come against Sam Houston State and Mercer. The wins come after the Longhorns dropped two of three at Cal State Fullerton last weekend. Peyton Powell leads the team in average at .407 but has only started five of the 11 games he has appeared in. Eric Kennedy has started all 12 for Texas and is slashing .367/.415/.633 this season. Kennedy leads the team in total bases (31), hits (18), and doubles (5). On the mound for Texas, Lebarron Johnson Jr. and Zane Morehouse have two wins. Both have a sub 3.30 ERAs and 1.45 WHIPs.
Jack Lynch has built on his impressive debut season with Manhattan. The now shortstop leads Manhattan in average (.375), slugging (.725), runs scored (8), hits (15), RBI (12), doubles (6), home runs (2), total bases (29), and OPS (1.183). Perez is second on the team in RBI (10), total bases (18), slugging (.667), and OPS (1.012).
Will Hesslink and
Tyler Fagler will start the first two games for the Jaspers.
Durocher and Perez are riding four-game hitting streaks, and Lynch has hit in three straight contests. Lynch and Marinelli have reached base in six games in a row too.
Durocher and Marinelli have stolen six bases through 11 games. The pair led the MAAC and rank T76 in the country. The Jaspers have 25 stolen bases as a team, which leads the MAAC.
