RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan women's lacrosse team returns home this week to take on Mount St. Mary's.
Manhattan (5-5, 1-0 MAAC) and Mount St. Mary's (2-7, 1-0 MAAC) will meet in Riverdale, N.Y., at Gaelic Park, at 1 p.m.
This is Mount St. Mary's first year competing in the MAAC. However, it is not their first time going up against Manhattan. The Jaspers and the Mountaineers last faced off on Feb. 17, 2018, where the Mountaineers topped the Jaspers 12-8.
The Mountaineers have most recently won their first conference game of the season, edging Niagara 15-14 in overtime.
In their most recent match, the Jaspers battled Canisius (5-3, 0-1 MAAC) last Saturday in Buffalo, N.Y. The Jaspers defeated the Golden Griffins 9-8. The Jaspers started the game down by two. The Jaspers answered back by scoring two quick goals in the last five minutes of play in the first quarter. The Jaspers then went on to shut out the Golden Griffins in the second quarter while also scoring three goals. Despite a Golden Griffin comeback in the second half, the Jaspers maintained their lead throughout the rest of the match.
Key players of the Jaspers offense included Julianna Iovine, dropping a hat-trick, and Reagan Mullins and Julia Fernandes with a pair of goals. Jennifer McPherson picked up three ground balls for the Jaspers.
The Jaspers are second in the MAAC in ground ball pick-ups (171). Iovine rose to fourth in the MAAC in assists with 16. Iovine and Reiner are tied in goals for the team lead with 18.
