Softball Opens Home Slate Friday

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan softball team opens its home schedule Friday at Gaelic Park with a doubleheader against Hartford. The Jaspers then host Central Connecticut on Monday at Gaelic Park.
 
The Jaspers and Hawks start at noon on Friday. The first pitch between the Jaspers and Blue Devils will begin at 1 p.m.  
 
Manhattan started its season with five games in Louisiana. The Jaspers fell in all five against Southeastern Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Northwestern St., Houston Christian, and Nicholls State.
 
Gabriella Mazzotta went 4-for-14 with a double on the bayou. Mazzotta also scored one of the three runs the Jaspers scored over the five games.
 
Hartford is 2-0 on the year, collecting a pair of wins over Delaware State on Feb. 24. The Hawks took game one 7-6 and game two 6-4. Mara Sczecienski and Kelsey Galevich are hitting .500 for the Hawks. Six different players have driven in runs for the Hawks through two games.
 
Central Connecticut is 1-3 on the year. The win came against Hampton in the Blue Devils' second game of the year. The Blue Devils dropped their last two games against Stony Brook and Colgate on Feb. 26 to close a weekend in Norfolk, Va. A trio of Blue Devils are hitting over .300 on the year.
 
Last year, Hartford took 3-of-4 games against Manhattan. The Jaspers did take the fourth game last year, 3-2. Since 2007, Manhattan is 16-11 all-time against Hartford. Monday will be the first meeting since 2019 between Manhattan and Central Connecticut. Since 2004, the Jaspers are 9-3 against the Blue Devils.
