RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan returns to Gaelic Park on Saturday when Sacred Heart visits for a 12 p.m. MAAC contest.
The Jaspers opened MAAC play with a 9-3 win at Mount St. Mary's last Saturday. After trailing 2-1, the Manhattan defense held Mount St. Mary's scoreless for close to 40 minutes of clock time while scoring eight straight goals.
Joseph Persico made 12 stops in goal, and
Dan MacKinney supplied a hat trick offensively for the Jaspers.
Sacred Heart is 0-6 on the season and is coming off an 11-8 loss at Siena to open MAAC play last Saturday. The last three losses for the Pioneers have been by three goals or less. Sal Miccio paces the Pioneers in points with 14 (10 goals, four assists). Jake Ward leads the team in goals with 11 on the year. Alex Pazienza has started all six games in goal and has a 14.55 GAA.
Persico continues to lead the MAAC and Division I in save percentage (.630). The graduate student has recorded five games of double-digit saves and has allowed double-digit goals only twice this season. Persico also paces the MAAC in GAA (8.34).
Kyle Gucwa is second in the MAAC in points per game (3.83), assists per game (1.83), and ninth in goals per game (2.0).
Liam Walshe is seventh in the MAAC in goals per game (2.33).
Liam McDonough is third in groundballs per game (5.33) and fourth in faceoff percentage (.521).
As a team, the Jaspers lead the MAAC in man-down defense (81.2%), scoring defense (8.33), and scoring margin (1.0). Nationally, the Jaspers are fourth in man-down defense, fifth in scoring defense, and 30
th in scoring margin.
