SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Manhattan dropped both games to Seton Hall on Wednesday, with its comeback bid in game two coming up just short in the end.
Game 1: Seton Hall 8, Manhattan 0 (5 Innings)
Seton Hall started fast in game one by bringing home three runs in the first. This was after Manhattan stranded runners at second and third.
Abby Wingo and Olivia Gilbert singled in runs, and the Pirates scored on an error.
The Pirates tacked on three more in the third and then one run in the fourth and fifth innings. In the third, Andrea Perez singled home two. Perez added her third RBI of the day in the fifth inning to win the game for the Pirates.
Gilbert finished the game 3-3, and Lela Allen went 2-2 with a double, RBI, and a run scored. Perez's two hits and three RBI came out of the number nine spot.
Jamie Falotico went 2-2 out of the nine-hole in the Jaspers' lineup.
Megan Hedlund had the lone extra-base hit for the Jaspers, a double in the first inning.
Sophia Kiseloski took the loss for the Jaspers. Kelsey Carr picked up the win after going four innings and striking out five.
Game 2: Seton Hall 9, Manhattan 7
Manhattan led 1-0 after the top of the first; then Seton Hall scored nine in the bottom second.
In the Pirates' second, the only multi-RBI hit came from Olivia Gilbert, who doubled to right to make it 6-0 Seton Hall. Gilbert scored the final run of the inning on a bases-loaded walk. The Pirates had seven hits and sent 15 hitters to the plate, and left the bases loaded in the frame.
Maddy Weir pulled one back for the Jaspers in the fourth with a sacrifice fly.
Manhattan got back in the game with a five-run sixth inning to pull within two, 9-7. Weir started the rally with an RBI single that scored
Grace Ware.
Gabi Mills followed with a two-run double to make it 9-4. Weir and Mills finished game two with two RBI.
Madison Ihnat then singled to bring in Mills to make it 9-5, with still only one out in the inning. The final run of the inning was
Jamie Falotico scoring on a
Gabriella Mazzotta triple to right. Mazzotta's RBI was her fifth of the season, and the outfielder extended her hitting streak to nine games.
The Jaspers did get the tying run on base in the seventh with one away but stranded the pair at first and second.
The Jaspers scored all six runs off Sydney Babik, but she still picked up the win for the Pirates.
The Jaspers return to action on Sunday at home at Gaelic Park, hosting Bryant for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
