RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan opens its MAAC schedule on Saturday at Mount St. Mary's at noon on ESPN3 in Emmitsburg, Md. It is the first time the two schools are meeting as league foes.
The last time the Jaspers and Mountaineers met was in 2014 in Riverdale. Manhattan won that meeting 8-7. Since 2006, the sides have split the eight meetings evenly.
Manhattan (3-2) is coming off a 15-12 loss at Bryant last Saturday. Kyla Gucwa scored five goals, and
Liam Walshe added four. Gucwa was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week earlier this week for his performance against the Bulldogs.
Joseph Persico made 11 saves for Manhattan against 26 shots on goal.
Liam McDonough went 11-22 on faceoffs.
Mount St. Mary's (1-5) lost in overtime against Monmouth last Saturday, 8-7. It was the second straight loss for the Mountaineers. The Mount's only win this season was a 13-10 victory over NJIT back on Feb. 18. Jared McMahon leads The Mount in goals (13), assists (4), and points (17) this season. Cormac Giblin is second on the team in goals (8) and points (10). Griffin McGinley has started all six games in goal and has allowed 13.64 goals against.
Persico continues to lead the MAAC in GAA (9.41). The graduate student sits eighth in Division I. Defensively, the Jaspers are tops in the MAAC in goals allowed and eighth in Division I.
Persico also paces the MAAC and is second in the country in save percentage (.608).
On the offensive end, Gucwa is third in the MAAC in assists per game (1.8).
