Jaspers' Late Push Not Enough at Siena

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Despite a 10-2 run before final-minute free throws, the Manhattan women's basketball team fell to Siena on the road Thursday night at the UHY Center, 75-65.

Manhattan falls to 9-14 overall and 6-8 in league play. Siena improves to 15-9 overall and 9-5 in MAAC tilts.

Manhattan concluded the first quarter trailing by three, 16-13, but came out in the second quarter firing on all cylinders, running out to an 11-2 run to open the quarter. The run was kicked off on the team's first trip down the floor with Bella Nascimento jumper. A Dee Dee Davis triple followed it up. Jade Blagrove finished through contact after backing her defender down from the free-throw line before Nascimento hit a triple to make it 24-18.

An Ahnishya Jackson triple stopped the run, but the Jasper offense was unfazed. The next trip down, Blagrove hauled in an offensive board off a Nascimento miss, Nascimento followed her shot and Blagrove found her for a wide-open layup, giving the Jaspers a 26-21 lead. The Jaspers took a four-point lead, 31-27, into the locker room at halftime.

Siena regained the lead in the third quarter, outscoring the Jaspers 15-6 to go up 42-37 before the media timeout. Siena took an eight-point lead, 49-41, into the final quarter.

Manhattan showed some life late, but it would not be enough. In the final couple minutes, Manhattan scored seven unanswered to come within single digits. Blagrove finished down low with a Saint on her back to earn a free throw to cut the lead to six, 66-60, but that was as close as Manhattan would get.

Manhattan's offense was paced by Petra Juric, who finished with 17 points and eight rebounds. Davis handed out nine assists.

Siena's offense was powered by freshman Elisa Mevius, who finished with a game-high 24 points.

The Jaspers return to the court not on their usual Saturday but on Sunday with a road tilt at Rider. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
