RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Jaspers return home to take on Columbia and Lindenwood this week, looking to pick a pair of home wins before heading back on the road.
The Jaspers face off against the Columbia on Wednesday at 3 p.m. They then take on Lindenwood on Sunday at noon.
Columbia last competed against Monmouth this past Saturday and suffered a similar fate as the Jaspers, losing 12-9. Lindenwood will be coming into this match on a two-game losing streak. Their most recent game was against UC Davis, where they were edged by the Aggies, 13-12.
In last week's matchups, the Jaspers dropped the first game against Monmouth 14-3. In Saturday's matchup against LIU, the Jaspers' and Sharks' offenses matched each other in the first three quarters, but an offensive push in the fourth led by Jillian Reiner carried the Jaspers to win.
Pacing the scoring for the Jaspers was Reiner, dropping a hat-trick and collecting two ground balls. Olivia Cruthers picked up a pair of goals, her first two of the season. Ava Fernandes had three points on a goal and two assists. Ashley Gambardella made 10 saves in the win. The Jaspers got 16 of their 23 shots on the net, in addition to winning three more draws than LIU, 10-7.
As for Columbia, they will make the short trip up Broadway with a record of 2-1. Both teams' only losses this season have come at the hands of Monmouth. Columbia's offense is paced by Cordelia Flemming, who has netted seven goals early in the campaign. Between the posts, Ella Sangree has made 20 saves thus far.
The 2021 NCAA Division II National Champions, Lindenwood, will make their first trip to the Northeast in the DI era, which began this year. While many pieces of that national title team have graduated, some remain. One of which is Emma Arnold, who has found the back of the net 11 times this year to go along with three assists. Lexi Biller has scored four times. So far, the team's offensive leader has been Logan Eldredge, who has 12 goals.
