Jaspers fall short to Wagner College, 68-56

Box Score RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan men's basketball team fell to Wagner College, 68-56 at Draddy Gymnasium in its final non-conference game of the season.

The Jaspers (4-7) were led in scoring by Seydou Traore who recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Rokas Jocys added 11 points and five rebounds off the bench for Manhattan.

Wagner was led by the trio of Melvin Council Jr, Javier Ezquerra, and Tahron Allen who combined for 46 of their 68 points.

"We are still a work in progress. I think we have done a good job," said Coach Gallagher. "I thought Seydou did great scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. He is such a special player. He keeps getting better and better each day. His numbers are off the chart and I think he can still play better."

The first half went back and forth for the whole period, but a late Briggs McClain three-pointer gave the Jaspers a 27-25 halftime edge. Traore guided the Jaspers as he contributed eight points and pulled down eight rebounds in the half.

The game continued to play to both sides with Wagner leading 38-36 with 15:09 to go. However, a 12-0 Wagner run pushed the score to 50-36 with 11:05 remaining. The Jaspers brought it back to a single-digit game with 7:40 left to go, closing the gap to 54-45 but ultimately were never able to gain enough momentum to complete a comeback.

In the second half, Wagner shot a remarkable 64 percent (16-25) from the floor and 83.3 percent from the three-point line, which was the difference maker in the game. Tahron Allen led the Seahawks with 17 points and Melvin Council Jr. added 16 points.

Manhattan shot 37.9 percent (11-29) from the floor and 29.4 percent from the three-point line. Manhattan will host Niagara University on Friday, Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. at Draddy Gymnasium as it returns to MAAC play.
