Manhattan Wins Season Opener Against Blue Devils

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Jaspers top the Blue Devils in a 52-35 win. Putting the Women at 1-0 to start the season.

When interviewed by Manhattan Basketball 93' Alum, Chris "Smooth", head coach Heather Vulin said, "I really want to make sure we have a defensive identity. I'm ecstatic about 35 points. That really shows some toughness and some commitment on the defensive end".
It was a closely contested game for the first half, with the Blue Devils leading for the majority of the first quarter. It wasn't until Petra Juric made two consecutive layups to tie the game that the Jaspers began their advance towards victory.

The tides turned in the second quarter, with the Jaspers taking a six-point lead into the final two minutes of the first half (24-18). The Blue Devils didn't back down, entering the third quarter firing on all cylinders to keep the Jaspers' lead in single digits. The Jaspers scored four unanswered points in the final minutes of the third quarter to go up by 10. Jayla James made the jumper that pushed them into a double-digit lead (32-22).

With 2:29 left in the game, the Jaspers turned up the heat, amassing the largest lead they had all night. The Jaspers scored nine straight points, with three being a significant three-pointer made by Anne Bair and assisted by Nitzan Amar.

Leaders: Lighting up the court for the Jaspers tonight was Bair, who scored 11 points, went 4-8 from the field, and was perfect from the free-throw line. Following closely behind Bair was Juric, who contributed 10 points and was also 4-4 from the free-throw line. Jade Blagrove pulled in 13 rebounds for the Jaspers, four more than the Blue Devils' top performer.

The Jaspers return to the court Friday November 10th at 6:00 pm to take on George Washington University
in Draddy Gymnasium.
