Box Score HARTFORD, CT. - The Manhattan men's basketball team took a 90-60 defeat to No. 5 UConn (6-0) following a two-game winning streak.
The Jaspers (3-2) were led in scoring by
Seydou Traore who finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds for his fifth straight double-digit performance.
Daniel Rouzan finished with 10 points, while
Rokas Jocys and
Jaden Winston finished with 9 apiece.
Tristen Newton led UConn, who finished with a triple-double recording 15 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds. Cam Spencer scored 18 points for the Huskies, while Donovan Clingan scored 17.
The Jaspers led the Huskies 11-10 with 13:54 remaining in the first half, the furthest into a game the defending national champions have trailed this season.
In the first half, UConn (6-0) shot 65.5 percent from the floor and 55.5 percent from the 3-point line, leading at the half by 17 points.
Manhattan shot 34.3 percent in the second half and 44.4 percent from the 3-point line, but it was not enough to slow down the Huskies.
"Today we faced the defending national champion and in my opinion, the best team in the country," said Coach Gallagher. "As we continue to grow, we saw some good things that we will continue to build on. All the corrections we will study and continue to grow from them too."
Alex Karaban led the way for UConn scoring 8 points and grabbing 3 rebounds, Cam Spencer also added 8 points in the Huskie's victory.
Manhattan will play in the Battle of the Bronx against Fordham at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 27.
