Soccer Squeezes Past Quinnipiac, 3-2

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan College men's soccer team won its final Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular season road match over Quinnipiac, 3-2, in wild fashion.

"I am proud of the team's resilience and determination to go on the road and come from behind to win," said head coach Jorden Scott. "We continue to show that we can win in different ways, which will prepare us for the next few weeks where the games only get bigger."

After the first 45 minutes, the score sat 0-0, with neither team being able to capitalize in the first half. The second half was a completely different story.

The Jaspers broke open the scoring when Gunnar Studenhofft connected with the lower left side of the net off a pass from Ziv Dahan in the 47th minute to give Manhattan an early 1-0 lead.

Quinnipiac used a roaring home crowd to score back-to-back goals in the 69th and 70th minutes to go up 2-1 and shift the momentum in their favor.

It took about nine minutes for Manhattan to decide that today would not end in a loss. The Jaspers turned on the pressure, upped their defense, and good ball play led to a Henry Hamilton penalty kick that sailed to the right side of the net to tie the match at 2-2. With the 90-minute mark creeping up and its conference title hopes on the line, a double assist by Tony Yeboah and Ayoub Boumelala found Studenhofft, who headed the ball in for the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute.

Manhattan moved the ball well in the final seven minutes to keep Quinnipiac off the boards, as it came away with the victory.

Manhattan led in shots (16-7), shots on goal (8-2), and corner kicks (8-3).

Sebastian Musu led the Jaspers in shots with six, while Studenhofft tallied three.

Quinnipiac falls to 2-8-5 overall, 0-4-4 in the MAAC.

Manhattan (6-5-3, 6-1-1 MAAC) closes out the regular season with two games at home. The Jaspers host Siena on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. and Iona on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 2 p.m.
