RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Manhattan suffered their first loss of MAAC play, falling to Marist 1-0 at Gaelic Park. The loss puts the Jaspers record to 2-4-3, including 1-1-2 in MAAC play.
Coach Lawler thought his team played better than the score suggested today, having said, "Tough result today especially based on the quality of our play but that's the game we play. We will fine tune some things and be ready to get a result on Wednesday at Iona."
Although the Jaspers outshot Marist 13 to 8, ultimately the scoring opportunities were not strong enough for the Jaspers to find the back of the net. Marist's sole goal came in the 12th minute, when Brooke Cergol recorded a goal, assisted by Samantha Stumo. Each team was assessed two yellow cards in what was a hard fought battle from beginning to end.
The Jaspers were led in the net by goalkeeper Margaret Brunk. She recorded five saves in six opportunities. Ianah Mackey led the Jaspers with five shot attempts.
As a team, the Jaspers recorded three corner kicks and had six shots on goal.
Manhattan returns to the pitch Wednesday, October 4, when they travel to New Rochelle to take on Iona in another conference battle.
