Jaspers Secure Road Win at Canisius

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Manhattan women's basketball team bounced back in a major way Saturday afternoon, taking down the Canisius Golden Griffins, 64-48, on the road.

In the closing seconds of the first half, Dee Dee Davis sank a free throw to move into No.10 on the Jaspers all-time scoring list, passing former teammate Courtney Warley on the list.

The Jaspers picked up their seventh win of the year to move to 7-11 and 4-5 in the MAAC while Canisius drops to 6-12 and 3-6 in the MAAC.

"Courtney has been a role model of mine since the day I stepped on campus," said Davis following the game. "I look up to her in many ways, both on and off the court. To be able to use some of what she's taught me in her time at Manhattan, to now surpass her on the all-time scoring list means a lot, a full circle moment. I'm honored to have grown with her and to have shared this milestone together."

The Jaspers took control of the game almost immediately following the opening tip. The Green and White opened the game on a 13-4 run. In that run, six different Jaspers got on the board, setting the tone for the team effort on the offensive end. Brazil Harvey-Carr and Bella Nascimento each connected on triples in the run. The Green and White took an eight-point lead (20-12) into the second quarter. In the second quarter, Harvey-Carr connected on another pair of triples to help extend the lead to 14, 36-22.

The second half saw the Jaspers continue to steadily build the lead but this was a game of four quarters of strong play in all.  The glass was dominated by the Green and White this afternoon, outrebounding the Golden Griffins 52-30.  21 of the Jaspers' points came from the bench while scoring another 26 in the paint.

"Great bounce-back win for our squad," added head coach Heather Vulin. "They showed a lot of maturity and poise and once they got a double-digit lead they kept it. I loved the dominant rebounding effort, unselfish play, and balanced scoring."

In addition to her new milestone, Davis set a new career-high in the rebounds column, hauling in 14 this afternoon to go along with 13 points for her sixth double-double of the season. Harvey-Carr provided 13 points and five rebounds while Jade Blagrove provided a season-high 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Jaspers return to Draddy for another pivotal MAAC game on Thursday, welcoming Quinnipiac to Riverdale for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
