FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Manhattan entered Thursday winners of back-to-back games but was edged by Sacred Heart 1-0.
Sacred Heart (2-3-1) got the lone goal of the game in the 27
th minute from Azria Malloy. Mallory scored from outside the eight-yard box and beat
Kim Mains back to the right post.
Mains ended the night with a season-high six saves. The first-half goal was the first allowed by Mains and the Jaspers in over 228 minutes of game action dating back to the season opener against Wagner.
Nicolette Caneda had a chance for the Manhattan (2-2) to get back level but was turned away by Elyssa Kipperman in the Pioneer goal.
In the second half, the Jaspers had a pair of shots on goal. The first opportunity came from
Makena Ward in the 55
th minute. Later, in the 69
th minute,
Nevaeh D'Aloia had a shot on frame. Kipperman saved both shots that came in low in the center of the goal.
Julia Nicholas' chance in the 77
th minute that was blocked proved to be the final credited shot for the Jaspers.
The Jaspers are off until next Thursday when they visit Stony Brook. It is the final non-conference game of the season for Manhattan.
