THE BRONX, N.Y. – The 49
th installment of the "Battle of the Bronx" was etched into the history books Tuesday night at Jack Coffey Field, where Manhattan was defeated by Fordham 3-1. This was Fordham's first win in the yearly match since 2018.
Fordham improves to 2-1-1 on the year, while Manhattan drops to 1-2-1 overall.
The Rams scored first on the rainy Tuesday night. In the 14th minute, Fordham fired a shot from outside the box,
Danny DiMarco made the save but Nathan Simes charged in and put the rebound in the back of the net to give Fordham a 1-0 edge.
Fordham threatened again shortly after. Following a handball inside the box by Manhattan, the Rams lined up for a penalty kick. DiMarco faced off against the Ram's Daniel Espeleta, but the Jasper's keeper read the kick and made the stop on his right side.
For the second match in a row, one of head coach
Jorden Scott's captains have stepped up. Against La Salle, it was
James Cotter and tonight it was all three. In the 24th minute, Cotter took a long ball from
Dorian Bounab and set up
Ronaldo Da Silva for his first goal of the year.
The Rams got another penalty kick in the second half. Simes faced off against
Daniel Polakowski, who assumed the net to begin the second half. Simes got the ball past Polakowski to regain the lead, 2-1. Fordham added an insurance goal in the 69th minute.
Manhattan outshot Fordham 16-13, 9-7 on-goal.
