RIVERDALE, NY – Manhattan fell to Rider Sunday afternoon at Draddy Gymnasium. Rider won by scores of 25-22, 18-25, 15-25, 14-25.
The Jaspers fought hard with the momentum they gained from yesterdays win, and was able to take the first set of the match and win 25-22. Manhattan was able to take advantage of an early lead and prevent Rider from ever taking the lead this set. At one point, Rider was able to tie the game at 10-10 when they scored off a kill. Manhattan answered back by going on 5-point run, kicked off by a kill by
Julia Menocal. Rider would eventually catch up again to make it a close game but never take the lead away from Manhattan.
The Second set was just as close as the first but Rider was able to take advantage of an early lead of their own. Manhattan was able to tighten up the game towards the end of the set when they went on a four point run kicked off by a kill from
Kelly Markowski, and two service aces from Julianne Mckee.
In sets three and four Rider was able to establish control in each set to finish up the game for the win.
The offensive leader for Manhattan were Menocal with 16 kills and
Kelly Markowski with 13.
Julieanne McKee also hit a season high 5 aces. The defensive leaders were
Teresa Garza with 17 digs and Menocal with 13
Manhattan plays again on Tuesday September 27th at 7p.m. against NJIT at Draddy Gymnasium.
