LOUDONVILLE, NY – Manhattan, despite its best efforts, fell to Sienna Sunday afternoon in three sets, with set scores being 25-8, 25-17, 25-19.
In the first two sets, Manhattan (0-9, 0-2 MAAC) saw the Saints take the early lead, including an 11-point lead in the first set. Unfortunately, it was too late in the opening set when Manhattan answered back. The second set wasn't much different, with Siena (3-8, 1-1 MAAC) taking an early lead. However, the Jaspers kept the set close initially, even going on a four-point run by taking advantage of a service error.
The third set proved to be the most exciting of the three, with Manhattan taking the early lead. Manhattan maintained the lead until Emily Wundler scored a kill to tie up the score at 8-8. While Manhattan would not retake the lead again this set, they tied up the game again at 10-10.
The game leaders for Manhattan were
Julia Menocal, with 11 kills and eight digs. Tied for the team lead in digs was
Teresa Garza, with eight of her own.
The Jaspers' last game on the road in this long stretch of away games to start the season is on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. Manhattan will visit Fairleigh Dickinson in Teaneck, N.J.
