RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan and Wagner were scoreless for 67 minutes before the Seahawks scored the lone goal in a 1-0 loss for Manhattan on Saturday night.
Wagner's (1-3) Gabby Cipriano served in a corner in the 68
th minute that Isabella Manzella flicked on to Juliana Rafaniello for the game-winner.
Manhattan (0-1) outshot Wagner 15-7 in the game and put five of those efforts on goal, but Erin Kelly stopped them all. The Jaspers were able to get down the wings and get service into the box but could not find a teammate with the crosses inside the Seahawk penalty area.
Two of the better chances for Manhattan came in the opening 45 minutes.
Julia Nicholas had a shot blocked by a Wagner defender inside the box in the 35
th minute. Five minutes later,
Mayah Wheeler saw her chance meet the same fate.
Kim Mains started in goal for the Jaspers and made two stops in the loss. Rafaniello had all three shots on goal for the Seahawks.
Manhattan returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 1, against St. Francis Brooklyn. The Jaspers and Terriers get underway at 7 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
