FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Manhattan dropped both games of a doubleheader against Fairfield on Monday. The Stags won the first game 5-0 before edging out the Jaspers 8-7 in the second game.
Game 1: Fairfield 5, Manhattan 0
In a competitive game, the first five innings remained scoreless. The Stags scored all five of their runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, with the help of three hits and one error. The first three runs of the inning were brought in with hits before the last two came home off of errors.
Megan Forbes, Tahlia Brown, and Kasey Sekula had the RBI hits for the Stags.
In the top of seventh, Gabriella Mazzotta singled past the shortstop, one of three Jasper hits, but was left on base.
Annie Moore and Megan Gillooley added a hits for Manhattan.
Fairfield outhit Manhattan, and Katie Kudlacik was credited with the win for the Stags in her complete-game performance in game one. Jessie Rising also pitched a complete game for the Green and White.
Game 2: Fairfield 8, Manhattan 7
Today's second game was a close contest that was decided by a walk-off single by Fairfield's Drew Westford off Jessie Rising in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Manhattan led 1-0 after one inning thanks to a Marika Deemer single up the middle to bring home Lauren Rende. The Stags answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the second.
The Jaspers added five more runs off four hits in the top of the third. Kylie Carr singled to right field, scoring Rising and Deemer. Mazzotta then hit a sacrifice fly to score Kristyn Smith and make it 6-1 game.
Fairfield came back, however, scoring four in the sixth and three in the seventh to win the game. With the bases loaded, Westford hit a walk-off single up the middle and score Mikayla Rubin.
Manhattan collected ten hits in game two, and Deemer lasted six innings while giving up seven runs. Baily Taylor was the winning pitcher for Fairfield.
The Jaspers finish the 2022 season at 13-32 overall and 7-13 in MAAC play.
