WEST POINT, N.Y. – Manhattan led briefly in the middle innings in an 8-5 loss to Army on Wednesday.
Manhattan (18-23) fell behind 3-0 early to Army, who clinched the Patriot League Regular Season Title last weekend, before coming back to the lead in the fifth.
Matt Padre homered to left to bring in
Trevor Santos and
Dolan Ocasal to make it 5-3.
Army (24-20) answered with a pair of runs in the sixth to tie the game at five. A single and a sacrifice fly did the job for the Black Knights.
The Black Knights retook the lead with a two-RBI hit from Derek Berg and added one more in the seventh to extend the lead to 8-5.
Four different Army pitchers limited Manhattan to three hits on Wednesday. Padre finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Harrison Treble had the other hit for the Jaspers, a double in the fourth. The centerfielder also scored and walked.
After
Ryan Crehan started, the Jaspers got scoreless innings from
Ohjiro Motoki,
Luke Rier, and
Jeff Long before the Black Knights got runs off the final three pitchers out of the Manhattan bullpen.
Teddy Lepico picked up the win for Army while
Connor O'Neill took the loss for Manhattan.
This weekend, Manhattan is back in action with three games at Dartmouth in a break from MAAC play.
