JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Manhattan earned back-to-back series wins to open MAAC play with a 10-0 win over Saint Peter's on Sunday.
It is the second 10-0 shutout for Manhattan (12-12, 4-2 MAAC) this season. The Jaspers blanked Merrimack on Mar. 20.
Kyle Lesler and
Ohjiro Motoki teamed up on the four-hit shutout on Saturday. Lesler got the start, went seven innings, and fanned 11 Peacocks while allowing only three hits. Motoki pitched the eighth to complete the shutout.
Lesler's 11 strikeouts are the most by a Jasper pitcher this season. The right-hander retired Saint Peter's (4-19, 1-4) in order in the first, third, fifth, and sixth innings and allowed only one runner to reach third base.
Offensively, Manhattan got on the board in the first and led 8-0 after four innings.
The Jaspers added four in the third.
Zahan Meyer had the big hit in the inning, a bases-clearing triple to right field.
Trevor Santos,
Pete Durocher, and
Harrison Treble scored on the two-out hit from the Jaspers' third baseman.
Manhattan needed only one hit to plate three more runs in the fourth. The first five hitters in the inning reached, and two fielder's choices and a sacrifice fly brought in the runs.
Meyer's only hit was the three-run triple in the third. Durocher added two RBI and extended his hitting streak to eight games.
David Bermudez went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Bermudez has a team-best six games of at least three hits.
Stony Brook visits Clover Stadium on Wednesday in the next game for the Jaspers. Manhattan's next league series is this coming weekend against Siena. The games against the Saints will be held at Pace University on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
